Objective

The Basic Materials folio was developed for investors seeking aggressive long-term capital appreciation with significant volatility.

Strategy

The Basic Materials folio consists of companies primarily engaged in the refining of metals, creation of chemicals, processing of forestry resources and manufacturing of tools and other industrial equipment.

Companies in the Basic Materials sector have historically been sensitive to changes in the business cycle and the sector depends on a strong economy. As such, the folio is usually more cyclical—meaning that it generally rallies during a booming market and has a better chance of being negatively affected during an economic downturn.
